An Introduction to the Spanish Community

Fr. Don Schramm, former pastor of Sacred Heart, has previously ministered to the Spanish speakers in the area, but the monthly Spanish Mass was discontinued when the General Motors Plant in Wentzville closed and when Fr. Don left the area to again return to Missionary work in South America.

In October, 2005, Fr. Ed Schramm (brother of Fr. Don) was assigned to Sacred Heart and began the 2:00 p.m. Spanish Mass and other Spanish services at Sacred Heart. Fr. Ed became very ill in March 2006, and in the absence of a permanently assigned priest, Fr. Alberto Magaņa from Clayton, Fr. Paul Tillman of Millwood, Fr. Frank Blood, and Fr. Patrick Keyes from St. Louis celebrated the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with us.

Through God's mercy and the continuing support of the Archdiocese, on June 11, 2006 Padre Carlos Tichacek (also known as Father Chuck) celebrated his first Spanish Mass at Sacred Heart as the Associate Senior Pastor. Father Chuck continues to serve our Spanish Community from St. Alphonsus Parish in Millwood, Missouri.

Our congregation remains small, but we look forward to the future with hope. Many people have helped at many different stages along the way, and we are thankful to each of them for their many different contributions. We ask that you keep us in your prayers.

To learn more about our Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters, join us at the 2 p.m. Mass whenever you can. Some wonderful links have been provided for more information about Our Lady of Guadelupe (Patroness of the Americas, and Patroness of the Unborn), Immigration in Missouri, and what the Bishops of America have to say about the status of current immigration laws.

God has been good to us, and Our Lady answers our prayers.

Estamos Unidos en Cristo. (We are united in Christ.)
