Sacred Heart School Board Meeting Minutes

For August 9, 2011

Attendance: Sr. Jeannette, Fr. Wissler, Doug Gildehaus, Jennifer Luetkenhaus, Angela Weisner and Phil Holland.

Doug called the meeting to order and Fr. Wissler opened with prayer.

Approval of Minutes: Angela approved the minutes 1^st and Jennifer 2^nd.

Pastor’s Report: There are two outstanding issues with the new building: we have to build a retention pond and we have to get the existing lift station up to code. Once the lift station is up to code the city will maintain it. There is a meeting with the city on August 15^th where the building plans will be presented. After this meeting permits can be issued.

Fr. Wissler proposed that we think about designating one evening each week where no school or parish activities will be planned. This would give parish and school families a break at least one day each week.

Principal’s Report: Last school year there were 271 students registered at year end. This school year there are 290 students registered. The only class with no new students is 8^th grade which already has 31 returning. The 16 new students will be coming to the school tomorrow (10-Aug) for orientation. Thursday (11-Aug) there will be all day teacher meetings and orientation that evening.

New English books have been purchased. Audra Grote will be the new Pinocchio teacher. Rebecca and Michelle are happy with the new library software. Some construction workers have been lined up to help move the playground equipment.

Sr. Jeannette has spoken to other schools and some are encouraging their teachers to participate in the Scrip program. She proposed that we do the same by giving the teachers 50% of the amount they earn over the minimum. The proposal was accepted and a $50 minimum was agreed on. The teachers will get 50% of any amount over $50 they earn. The money they receive back can be used for classroom expenses.

Sr. Jeannette brought to the boards attention that Loretta Orf has been working many extra hours over the summer. Loretta is responsible for the computer room and most recently she was struggling with an Internet outage at the school. Sister would like to recognize Loretta’s hard work in some way and suggested a gift card might be appropriate. The board agreed and Fr. Wissler suggested that Sister speak with Home and School about the gift card.

Old Business: The teacher appreciation dinner will be August 30^th at Doug’s home starting at 6:30 PM.

New Business: The tailgate party will be September 9^th starting at 6:30 PM. Phil volunteered to create the flyer that will be sent home with students and will send it to Sr. Jeannette by September 26^th. Jennifer will collect the RSVP’s and give the results to Sr. Jeannette. School board members should arrive early to help setup. The new school board member orientation is August 22^nd from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at St. Patrick’s.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 13^th at 7:00 p.m. Sr. Jeannette will lead the prayer.

Fr. Wissler led a closing prayer. Doug adjourned the meeting.
