Parents’ Newsletter
February, 2012
Parents:
January is usually a month filled with many snow days. Thankfully we seem to have made it through much easier than last year.
Thank you for sending your children to Sacred Heart School. I know that we have much to be proud of. During this Catholic Schools Week, we are focusing on Faith, Academics, and Service. Sacred Heart School is strong in all three areas. We would not be able to offer what we do without your generosity and support. I ask God to bless you daily and give you what you need at this time in your life. Raising children can be very challenging; trying to teach them good morals and help them to see that what they see on TV does not show good role models. Hopefully, when your children are grown, you can look back and see that the sacrifices you have made have paid off as your children are faith-filled people of integrity.
Friday is Parents Appreciation Day. Drive through the drop-off line and get a donut—a small way to say “Thank you.” Even if you cannot drive through, know you are appreciated very much. Thursday is Teacher Appreciation Day; they ask that in lieu of gifts, you send 50c in order to wear a hat for the day. A nice note from you would be an appropriate gesture. The money will go toward something for the gym.
Lent begins in February. It is a time for change. Too often it is a negative giving up (even though that can be an important thing also). We might begin the season on Lent thinking about what needs changing in our lives. Can we be more aware of family members and their needs? Do we have neighbors that we can reach out to and lend a listening ear or a helping hand? Do we realize that we are our children’s first teacher of the faith? What does this mean? It means going to Church on Sunday, praying together at meals and bedtime, and putting Christian values in our speech and actions. Is there something that could be changed in this area?
Our prayers and sympathy are with Chris Mennemeyer and family on the death of her father and Brenda Schulte and family (Jessica) on the death of her mother and grandmother.
Congratulations to Marty and Britney Ruether on the birth of Leo and Kyle and Lisa Larson on the birth of Benjamin.
Congratulations to our Students of the Month: Mackenzie Williams and Maddie Isom (K), Kylee Dameron and Jordan Hall (1), Daniel Havlik and Ellie Biermann (2), Abby Meyer and Sydney Bakker (3), McKenna Courtney and Justin Havlik (4), Emily Mueller and Emily Ruck (5), Jessica Schulte (6), Maddy Mueller (7), Caitlynn Metze (8). Congratulations also to Joe Colbert who was the local winner in the National Geographic Bee; he took a written test that was sent to the state to see if he qualifies on the state level.
Our auction will be this Saturday. I hope that you can make it and be part of the “Elvis generation” even if only for a few hours. Thank you to the committee, Natalie Cook, Julie Vermilye, and Cathy Braungardt, and to each of you who helped solicit, contributed to the baskets, helped put projects together, and will help in the coming days. It takes everyone to make this a success. If you can invite anyone to attend yet, please do so. Tickets are available in the office.
Our new building is moving right along. With the warm weather, they have been able to pour quite a bit of cement so we are seeing pieces of the foundation rising from the ground. Keep in mind that we will need many hands in early August (probably the 2nd week) to help move the K-2 grades into the new building and the 3rd and 4th grades upstairs to the vacated classrooms. We moved the whole school from across town to this building in one evening so this should be a piece of cake! We will also need help during the summer to repaint the cubbies that we bought for the preschool. We will be putting out SOS’s periodically so know they are coming.
Please keep in mind that the children are to be in their rooms by 7:55. In order for this to happen, they need to be dropped off no later than 7:50. If they need to go downstairs, you might have to have them here by 7:45 if they are slow walkers.
If you have not returned the registration paper for next year, please do so ASAP. We have to have a number of students so we can offer contracts.
Keep the box tops coming. We received a check for $1545 for the “garbage” that we sent in. Encourage family and friends to save box tops and Campbell labels. If you have a Facebook account , go to Labels for Education and click “Like”. For each “Like” the school receives 50 bonus points.
As you might be aware President Obama recently made a decision that all health plans have to include sterilization and contraceptives and some abortion-inducing drugs in their plans, regardless of the employers’ conscience. Please keep this in your prayers and if you can, let the representatives know of your feelings.
